Yamama! World Rhythm and Dance Celebration

Can’t quite muster for a trip around the world? Not to worry — the women of Yamama. will take you on a joyride to locations far and wide as they share the rhythms, songs and dance of lands exotic, mystical and evocative. From the fascinating polyrhythms of the African continent to the snowy mountains of Macedonia, from the Celtic Isles to our own southern United States, this evening’s performance is sure to delight all ages. Come on out and get your toes tapping, your smile connecting with friends new and old, and get that joyful springtime sap rising in your soul. Warm Your Soul with 3 amazing offerings from Yamama. , a six-woman World Music and Dance ensemble based in Bozeman. All 3 for $40 or $15 per class. *West African Dance with Yamama. *1:00-2:00PM: West African Dance Class Ginny Watts has studied dance for over 45 years.



She has studied World dance at California State University, Fullerton with members of the world-renowned Aman Dance Troupe. She has also studied and performed with Dance Masters Youssouf Koumbassa from Guinea, West Africa; and Djeneba Sako from Mali, West Africa; and with John Compton and Rebaba, from San Francisco; and with Delilah, from Seattle. Ginny has taught and performed from Massachusetts to Hawaii and Montana to California. She has been teaching and doing public presentations in World dance for over 30 years. *Drumming with Yamama. *2:30-4:00 PM: Drumming 2:30 PM: “Universal Rhythms” class. Universal Rhythms are basic skills to help beginning drummers feel more confident in the drum circle. 3:00 PM: Drum Circle Please bring your own drums and percussion instruments if you have them, and there will also be loaner instruments available.


The drum circle is for all skill levels from beginner to advanced, including those with no experience. Children are welcome with a participating adult. As one-third of the 6-woman World Rhythm ensemble Yamama. , Stormi Oshun and Shaun Phoenix are partners in life and in leading Many Hands Light Work, an organization which dreams of building and strengthening heartful connections between people and communities, using drumming and other soulful expressions to heal the world. They offer West African hand drum lessons, facilitated drum circles, and shamanic healing work as well as their popular bucket drumming workshops. They are also the co-founders and former leaders of Chicks With Sticks, Montana’s premiere marching bucket drum corps. In all their work, Stormi and Shaun are dedicated to celebrating life’s diversity in its many forms, and are active in social justice work.
