Wrestling Meet Assembly and Winter Sports Voter Appreciation Day

Pine River Area Schools announces an End of Day Wrestling Meet Assembly and Winter Sports Voter Appreciation afternoon and evening on Wednesday, December 20, 2017. As part of our appreciation, Pine River is inviting all wrestling alumni and winter sports fans to join us as we host a quad meet with Petoskey, Beaverton, and Reed City starting at 2:45 p.m. in the high school gym. A junior varsity/varsity double header then follows at 6:30 p.m. in the high school gym as Pine River takes on Manistee in boys basketball. Community members who purchase a ticket or hold a pass for the wrestling meet or basketball game, will be issued a complimentary hot dog and bag of chips, available until half-time of the junior varsity basketball game. “We are inviting our wrestling alumni who supported us through the bond proposal,” said Pine River’s Wrestling Coach Tim Jones.

“We really want our supporters to be able to see the wrestling room, walk around, and see what their ‘yes’ vote has done for our kids and our wrestling program.” Superintendent Matt Lukshaitis said, “The wrestling room, new gym floor, and new indoor bleachers are simply amazing. We have a safe seating system, a floor to be proud of, and for our kids who wrestle, a special place to call their own. The basketball and volleyball teams now have—for all intents and purposes—a beautiful new gym. Additionally, our wrestlers now have room they have always deserved. Without our yes voters, this would never have happened. We are all so grateful for the renovations and additions at our school.” As for the wrestling meet which starts thirty minutes prior to school getting done for the day, “We’re doing something unique and we want to expose all our high school students to wrestling,” said high school principal Brent Ruppert.

“Also, it’s a great way to show off the gym and show our kids how the school system thanks the public.” Athletic Director Shawn Ruppert added, “It’ll be quite the sight, all those wrestlers and so many of our own students with adults and kids from other schools watching a meet. It will be interesting and should be fun. Following the meet with a basketball double header should mean plenty of chances on one night to see our renovated gym and new wrestling room.” Superintendent Lukshaitis also said, “We are so thankful for all the community support and for voting YES for this bond proposal. We are hoping for a big turnout so folks can see the help they’ve given our students. Thank you Pine River. Thanks for supporting our Bucks. ” Fans and community members planning on attending the wrestling meet at the end of the school day are asked to come into the parking lot prior to 2:45 p.m.

or to wait until 3:30 p.m. to avoid long lines and allow our buses to run on time to help kids get home.
