Western Slope Winter Hike

We're heading west. Come join Backpacks + Bleeders for our first Western Slope Colorado hike. This classic Grand Junction hike is for all skill levels and all ages. Severe hemophiliac Chris Bombardier will be joining us as we go over proper techniques for storing and carrying factor product, emergency preparedness on the trail, and you will even have the opportunity to practice a mock infusion on the hike. Micah Mine Trail is a 2.6 mile moderately trafficked out and back trail located near Grand Junction, Colorado. The elevation gain is mild, making for a fairly flat trek that's easy on your ankles. When accessing this trail in the winter, Ladder Creek is likely to be frozen and will be crossed twice during our hike. Dogs are allowed on this hike, on leash of course.

Please be sure to bring good footwear (this will vary depending on the weather), water, and layers of clothing in accordance to the weather. While we will be teaching on the trail infusions at this event, please be sure to follow your normal prophy regimen prior to the hike as there will NOT be a nurse present. DIRECTIONS: From Grand Junction, travel west on Grand Ave from 1st street and turn left onto Monument Road. Travel about 1/4 mile and take another left onto D road which turns into Rosevale Road. About a mile take a right onto Little Park Road and continue travelling for another 5 miles or so. Shortly after a fairly tight turn to the right there is a road to the left with a sign indicating “Bangs Canyon Staging Area”. Follow this road the short distance to the parking area.

The trail head is straight to the west of the parking area.
