Train Ride Luncheon & Gordon-Lee Mansion Tour
Train Ride Luncheon & Gordon-Lee Mansion Tour Pickup Locations: Dunham Sports in Scottsboro, AL at 7am (We might add a Fort Payne pickup if we get enough requests) All aboard the Chickamauga Turn Train Ride for a 6.5 hour trip to the historic Civil War town of Chickamauga, Georgia via the former Central of Georgia Railroad. The trip will be narrated by a cival war historian dressed in war gear. We will enjoy a luxury lunch onboard the train. Lunch is similar to the following menu: Baked turkey and Swiss cheese croissant with all the fixings, cole slaw, potatoes, and fruit cocktail. Beverages include iced tea or lemonade. The tasty dessert selection is usually chocolate fudge cake but varies. After lunch we will continue our ride before our 1.5 hour layover in downtown Chickamauga, where we will enjoy a guided tour of the Gordon-Lee Mansion.
The battle of Chickamauga was a key battle between north and south. The Gordon Lee Mansion played an important role in that conflict. We will learn about the significance of this home. On the return trip, we will make a short layover at Wilder Tower Monument at the Chickamauga & Chattanooga National Military Park. This was the location of the battle of Chickamauga, one of the deadliest battles in the Civil War. The historian on board the train will give a brief history demonstration about the battle. Afterward, climb the 136 steps to the top of Wilder Tower for an aerial view of the battlefield if you dare. We should arrive back in Scottsboro by 5:30pm, just in time for supper. $99 (age 11+) - includes round trip transportaion by charter bus with bathroom onboard. Admission for a 6.5 hour train ride on at the Tennessee Valley Railroad. Luxury Luncheon onboard the train. Admission and tour of Gordon-Lee Mansion. Admission and time to explore Wilder Tower Monument at the National Military Park and climb to the top of the tower for an amazing view of the battlegrounds. $69 (age 0-10yrs) - everything included above NOTE - Lunch will be around 10:30am Alabama/Central time. You may want to eat a light breakfast since lunch is so early due to the time change. Snacks and other refreshments are available for purchase on the train after lunch..
