Tom Petty Tribute Night at Uptown Bill

Local musicians pay tribute to the music and spirit of Tom Petty. Like to be a part of this evening? Sign up at the coffee house for a 10 minute set.

Tom Petty Tribute Night is a benefit for Uptown Bill's Coffee House. Bill's regularly hosts local musical performances of all genres, as well as from all over the country. In fact, musicians on tour love to play here because they know they will receive an audience's full attention. (Check out this trailer from a new tour documentary by an L.A. singer-songwriter who played at Bill's last July.) Although Bill's is a nonprofit, it is required to pay $2000 annual performance rights fee to ASCAP, BMI and SESAC, like any for-profit music venue. $700 of the total comes due in December.

This is a tough burden for any nonprofit to bear. Hope to see you all on Dec. 9 to help keep the music playing at Bill's. Thank you.
Coming to the show on Saturday night? If you're walking, Uptown Bill's is just five blocks south of Burlington on Dubuque St. Riding your bike? We have a bike rack right out front. Driving? Park in the U of Iowa lot right across the street, Hope to see you.
"I've never seen a more pro-radio song than 'The Last DJ.' I love radio. I was just singing about how, at one time in life, radio was an art form and you have generations that don't even know that. And I was singing about the vanishing human voice." (2002)
Another article from the New Orleans magazine Offbeat about Petty. I saw his set at JazzFest and it was amazing.

From the archives. A wonderful 1987 interview byHilburn, longtime music critic for the Los Angeles...
