The Dam Ride 2019
THE DAM RIDE-BIKE/KAYAK We are so excited about our fourth annual Dam Ride. The Dam Ride is a training ride put on by Alabama Power Company to promote our local bike MS events. Food, lodging and shuttling will be provided for the weekend. All you have to do is show up Friday ready to ride. If cycling isn't your thing, The Dam Kayak Ride might just float your boat. We offer a two-day kayaking, or any other self-propelled watercraft, event on the Coosa River's Alabama Scenic River Trail on the flat waters of Lay Lake. More details to come. THE DAM BIKE RIDE We will be leaving the morning of Friday, April 19th from Alabama Power Company Headquarters (600 18th Street North, Birmingham, AL 35291). There will be overnight parking available for all of our riders in the guest lot across the street from the building.
Please arrive no later than 8:45am. We plan to roll out by 9:00am. We will be providing SAG and luggage transport for the ride. The luggage truck will be parked in front of the building. Friday Afternoon We will have lunch at Vandiver Park (12177 Highway 43, Vandiver, AL 35176). Riders can meet us at Vandiver Park to avoid the climb in the first part of the ride. If you plan to meet us at Vandiver Park please arrive no later than 11:15am. We plan to be back on the road by noon so this will give us time to eat lunch and get everything packed up. We should arrive at the Dam mid-afternoon. Then we will enjoy corn hole, boat rides, and an Italian feast for dinner. We will have linens, cots, and towels for everyone staying overnight. For those camping don’t forget to put your supplies into the luggage truck. Saturday Ride Saturday we will have two route options. First a loop to Mitchell Dam and the trek back to Birmingham with the shorter option for those parked in Vandiver. We will be sending route maps and gps links soon. The route is marked and there will be plenty of signs.
