Make a Difference America–advances public policies that make measurable and lasting improvements in the lives of ordinary Americans. Make a Difference America–founded on the principle that when individuals stand as one, even insurmountable challenges become possible. Initiatives: Thousands of combat veterans have returned home from active duty with significant service-connected disabilities. Many of these former service members require specialized wheelchairs to restore the independence and mobility they lost serving our country. Sadly, too often injured veterans never receive the needed powered wheelchair from the United States Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). An unfortunate mix of bad regulation, poor oversight, and government red tape means wounded warriors face unreasonable delays or barriers to obtaining powered wheelchairs through the VA.

Wounded warriors have been forced to turn elsewhere—such as non-profit organizations—to obtain a powered wheelchair that fits their medical and lifestyle needs. We owe our injured veterans a measure of devotion and respect befitting the sacrifices they have made on our behalf. Make a Difference America is working to change regulations and laws to fix this oversight.
