SUMMER SOLSTICE CONCERT: Yosif Feigelson, Cello

Internationally renowned cellist and Tchaikovsky prize-winner Yosif Feigelson brings his artistry to the Museum of Russian Icons with a wide-ranging program for solo cello. The concert will be followed by a wine reception. Join us to celebrate the Summer Solstice in scenic Clinton. Presented by Ballets Russes Arts Initiative in connection with the exhibit Jacques' Menagerie, the concert will feature music by Bach, Prokofiev (born in Ukraine) and Albeniz as well as Mieczyslaw Weinberg (Russian-Jewish, born in Poland) and Gaspar Cassado.  In addition to playing, Feigelson will speak about the pieces, providing historical and musical insights.  Program: Bach   Sarabande and Gigue in C majorProkofiev  Andante from Unfinished Sonata opus 143Weinberg Seven preludes from opus 100Gaspar Cassado  Suite in d minorIsaac Albeniz  Asturias  Praised for his marvelously singing tone, effortless technique, and sincere, enlightening interpretations, Latvian-born cellist Yosif Feigelson has enjoyed a solo career spanning over four decades.

Winner of the prestigious Tchaikovsky (1974) and J.S. Bach (1976) International Competitions as well as Avery Fisher Career Grant (1990), he toured throughout the United States, Europe, Russia, Israel and China. He made the widely-acclaimed New York début in 1988, when he stepped in at short notice to take the place of the ailing legend-violinist Nathan Milstein with the New York Chamber Symphony. His 1996 performance of Dvořák’s Cello Concerto with the Detroit Symphony under Neeme Järvi was recorded for Eurobroadcast and heard on radio stations all over the world.
