Storytelling Master Class

From ideas to the page to the stage, the Story Story Studio breaks down the elements of electric live storytelling, so anyone can dig into powerful scenes from real experience, then boldly step into the spotlight, and tell it like it is. Over the course of 4 weeks you will draft, develope, polish and perform your story. This class is designed for those who want to "Master" the art of telling a five minute live story. All the tools and tricks of the trade we share in this studio class can be applied to any true life tale. All sessions are Saturdays from 1:00 - 3:30 pm at the Visual Art Collective (must be 21 with valid ID). January 13th, 20th, 27th and February 3rd Session 1: January 13th: Story Drafting: mine the moments of your life that have all the elements of a lean-in-what-happens-next kind of story.

Participtants will develop the concepts and connection that make stories ring with truth, power, insight, and humor. Session 2: January 20th: Story Building: just like a well built house, well built stories need a good foundation, solid walls and door to exit out of. In this session, participants will spend time building a launch and a land as well as scenes that make your story come to life using all senses that ground us in a setting. Session 3: January 27th: Story Polishing: put the finishing touches on your five minute masterpiece and begin to practice telling it live and telling it like it is. Stage presence, projection, inflection, body language and mic time, will all be adressed in the third session. Find your personal story telling style so you can present your most authentic self.
Session 4: February 3rd: Story Performance: warm up with your fellow story tellers and get that last minute feedback because it's time to take your story from the page to the stage. In the final hour of this last workshop, we invite friends and family to come take a seat and share in all our hard work as we show off the stories we have crafted. Congratulations. You have mastered your first live story telling event. Now about that Story Slam hat... Studio Guide: Amanda Rich, the head of our Studio arm, is a poet and performer with over a decade of experience in creative writing, street theater and community education. Recently, her work has been showcased at One Flaming Arrow: Intertribal Art, Music and Film Festival in Portland, OR; 2016 StoryFort; and the Boise Art Museum’s Tall Tales exhibit.
