Steamboat Bill, Jr. (1928) at the Orpheum Theatre

See this silent film as it was meant to be seen: with live accompaniment on the Orpheum’s Mighty Wurlitzer organ. Buster Keaton stars in this 1928 silent as William “Steamboat Bill” Canfield, the owner of a paddle steamer who hopes to teach his son the family trade. The son, however, falls in love with the daughter of Steamboat Bill’s biggest rival, much to Bill’s dismay. Will this father and son be able to sort out their differences before a hurricane destroys Bill’s steamboat? This slapstick comedy features one of Keaton’s most famous stunts: the entire front side of a house falls on top of him, but he is untouched as he stands in the opening of the upper floor window. Stay in your seat after the film to learn more about the theatre’s history and architecture.

This screening is part of Last Remaining Seats, the Los Angeles Conservancy’s summer series of classic films in the historic theatres of L.A. County. Proceeds support the Conservancy’s mission to preserve the historic and culturally significant places that make L.A. County unique. Black and white Silent, with live accompaniment on the Orpheum’s Mighty Wurlitzer organ 71 minutes

Who will be the organist? I'd recommend Walt Strony.
