State of the Science (EM3C)
State of the Science is a two-day conference to discuss ecosystem-based fisheries management in Eastern Maine, bringing together experts from local governments, fishing, science, and academic communities. The conference is the first step toward producing a comprehensive understanding of our current knowledge of Eastern Maine’s watersheds, intertidal, nearshore, and offshore ecosystems. Key note speakers will present their work on each of the ecosystems below, including knowledge of governance and socio-economics. The conference will then use breakout discussions to identify gaps in knowledge and next steps. The Eastern Maine Coastal Current Collaborative (EM3C) is a project between Maine Center for Coastal Fisheries, the Maine Department of Marine Resources, and NOAA Fisheries to develop a research framework that supports ecosystem-based fisheries management in the Eastern Maine Coastal Current and its associated watersheds.
The conference will be held on-campus at the University of Maine Machias. Participants are encouraged to attend both days. Registration includes: Access to all sessions and keynote presentations. Lunch, dinner, and coffee break refreshments on both days. Shuttle to/from airport or bus depot. Shuttle to/from conference hotels.
