Showcasing the Standards: Teaching About Arizona--Focus 3rd Grade (Repeat, Last Chance!)

Description Last chance.   The new History and Social Sciences Standards were adopted in 2018. In order to assist teachers new to teaching about Arizona geography, history, economics, and civics; the Arizona Geographic Alliance is partnering with the Arizona Department of Education and the Capitol Museum to share free resources and provide training. When: Saturday, September 28, 2019                 10 AM to 2 PM Where: Arizona Capitol Museum, Historic Senate Chambers, 1700 W. Washington, Phoenix, AZ 85007 Cost: **ALMOST FREE ($2.50)** --- But you get lunch and goodies.   ** Please note: Due to a change in Eventbrite policies, we can no longer refund the full amount of your deposit. Eventbrite is keeping fees they charge, and they cannot be refunded. Therefore, any future events will now have a very small fee ranging from $2.50-5 depending on ticket prices.

This event will have a fee of about $2.50. If you attend our event the deposit minus the fees will be refunded. If you do not attend, your deposit will be kept. Once an order is placed, fees cannot be refunded. We apologize that we can no longer provide fully free events. Lunch: Provided, please email Heather.Moll@asu.edu if you have any dietary restrictions by September 18th, 2019 Parking: FREE—Wesley Bolin Plaza, just east of the capitol building Participants will leave this workshop with: An understanding of how the new standards are expected to be taught. Ideas on the timeline for implementation. Tour of the Capitol Museum. Information on how to book a field trip to the Capitol Museum. Hands-on lessons ready to teach tomorrow. Access to a huge bank of lessons that tie the social sciences to ELA, math, and science.
Access to dozens of maps that assist in teaching about Arizona’s history, native peoples, dams, mining, landmarks, physical regions, and more. Information about the Giant AZ Floor Map program. 4 Recertification credits. Copies of children’s literature--at least one book per attendee: Year of the Ranch Alejandro’s Gift Hip, Hip Hooray, It’s a Monsoon Day We strongly encourage bringing a sweater or jacket with you to the training. The room at the Arizona Capitol Museum is very very cold and we do not have control of the temperature.   .
