SUN, SAND AND SWORDS TOURNAMENT is here again. Please come out and enjoy a day in the park with the Shire of Burning Sands.

The time for reveling is past with war soon approaching. The
vigilant southwestern border defenses of our Kingdom call to all
of our fellow Warriors of the Aten Sun. Come join us in honing
our skills during a day of fighting and Chivalry, in the Shire of
Burning Sands. The annual shire tournament will be fought bear
Pit style with 4 separate rounds, each round will be a different weapon style. Round 1 sword and shield, round 2 will be hand axe and off hand of choice, round 3 will be great weapon/pole arm of choice and round 4 will be daggers. The victor will receive a $100.00 gift
certificate to Windrose Armory as his or her reward.
to fight, you say. ? (What. ?) This year we will also be holding a bardic competition, your choice of a poem, a song or musical instrument or a short skit. Winner of the bardic will receive a prize and bragging rights. We will also hold an A&S competition in the field of archery, the entry must be period and usable on the archery field, all entries for the competition will be donated to the Shire of Burning Sands Archery group. Besides the beautiful
weather and site, there will also be medieval games, food, and a
silent auction to keep you and the smalls entertained, while the
fighters “sort things out”.
Test your skills at desserts with our silent ballot judged dessert
contest. No desert will be turned away. The winner, who is determined by Populace vote will receive a $25.00 gift certificate to Amazon.com.
For others who wish to test their prowess in other skills, a Croquet
Tournament will run throughout the afternoon for all ages. Winner
of the Croquet Tournament will receive a trophy to commemorate
becoming this year’s Shire Croquet Champion.

From the North/East: Follow your favorite route to I-8 W. At Gila Bend continue west for another 85 miles. Exit for Wellton, AZ at exit 30. Turn right on Williams St (S. 29th Ave East). Continue for approximately ½ mile and take a right on Los Angeles Avenue. Continue for 1000 ft, and then take a left on Dome St. The park entrance is on the left, after the Sherriff’s Station and Court House. Look for SCA signs.
From the West: Follow your favorite route to I-8 E. Follow it until
you have driven through Yuma, AZ and over Telegraph Pass. On the other side of the pass take Exit 30 to Wellton, AZ. Take a left onto Williams St. (S. 29th Ave East). Follow the same directions from this point forward.
