safeTALK Training

safeTALK is a 3 hour training by Living Works Education that helps participants recognize and respond to a person with thoughts of suicide. The participants will become suicide alert helpers and learn how to connect the person with thoughts of suicide with resources to help them choose to live. The safeTALK workshop combines presentations with opportunities for practice and role plays. The goals and objectives of safeTALK or to 1) notice and respond to situations where suicide thoughts may be present, 2) recognize that invitations for help are often overlooked, 3) move beyond the common tendency to miss, dismiss, and avoid suicide, 4) apply the TALK steps: Tell, Ask, Listen, Keepsafe, and 5) know community resources and how to connect someone with thoughts of suicide to them for further suicide-safer help.

Participants receive a wallet card with the TALK steps and resources. Sponsored by the Maryland Behavioral Health Administration’s Office of Workforce Development and Training. The Office of Workforce Development and Training is authorized by the Maryland Board of Professional Counselors and Therapists to sponsor continuing education programs for Category A CEU (3), the Maryland Board of Social Work Examiners to sponsor social work continuing education programs for Category I CEU (3), the State Board of Examiners of Psychologists and the Maryland Association of Prevention Professionals & Advocates to sponsor continuing education programs for CEU (3).
