Location: Fromm Hall across from St. Ignatius Church, San Francisco, CA 10:30 am Reception and viewing of Borysewicz exhibit "Fragments" 11:00 am Panel Discussion and Q & A Joseph Bottum Cynthia Haven James Matthew Wilson Alfonse Borysewicz Exhibit opens January 27th and runs January 27-February 28, 2019 On January 27,  the Benedict XVI Institute and St. Ignatius Parish will launch an extraordinary event: "René Girard and the Catholic Artist: A Conversation" It begins at 10:30 with coffee and doughnuts and an art installation with Alfonse Borsiewicz at Fromm Hall's vestibule (across the path from St. Ignatius 650 Parker Avenue, on the University of San Francisco campus; (The paintings will be on display until February 28) Here is your chance to converse with a Brooklyn painter America magazine called a "serious artist"  one of "the few artists" who have the courage to bridge the gap between Catholicism and the art world.

Image magazine called him one of the most important religious artists since the French Catholic expressionist Georges Henri Rouault.  How do we reconcile modernism and the sacred?  Aflonse has been influenced by Stanford Catholic theologian and French literature professor Rene Girard on this question. From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. we move into Fromm Hall for a wider conversation with Alfonse and three extraordinary culture creators:  Catholic poet and Villanova professor James Matthew Wilson, whose latest work of poetry is Hanging God. Girard biographer, Stanford book blogger, and newly honored National Endowment for the Humanities scholar Cynthia Haven, and Joseph Bottum, professor at Dakota State University, extraordinary essayist, and poet, songwriter and short story writer, author of  An Anxious Age: The Post-Protestant Ethic and the Spirit of America (2014).
