Recycle with the city of Cherokee Village & SID

Recycling by the citizens of our city is a significant contribution to the environment. It is a contribution that impacts not only our lifestyle but avoids the accumulation of unnecessary waste in area landfills. Not only is it helpful and important to recycle in order to reduce the drain on our natural resources but it sets an example for others on how to dispose of certain items of solid waste. The city recently acquired a Pro-tainer which is a unit designed to hold recyclable items and which will allow us to play a more direct role in the recycling process. The unit does not eliminate the need for volunteer groups to work the weekly recycling efforts. However, it will able the volunteers to perform their work more efficiently. In order to assist volunteers, who man the recycling operation on the City Hall parking lot, the following are important guidelines to follow when dropping off recyclable items: 1.

Hours of operation are Wednesdays from 8-11 unless cancelled due to inclement weather or that date is a holiday 2. Items that are acceptable for recycling include plastic liquid/beverage containers or prescription containers with either a number “1” or “2” on the bottom—only those numbers are recyclable 3. Aluminum cans and metal cans that contained beverages or food 4. Cardboard which is commonly used for shipping 5. Newspaper, magazines, copy paper, card stock Flush or rinse out the inside of the plastic, aluminum, or metal containers as residue contaminates and the items cannot be recycled. Also, it is helpful for the volunteers if you separate the items listed above from each other. DO NOT BRING ITEMS WHICH SHOULD BE PLACED IN YOUR NORMAL GARBAGE PICKUP.

PLASTIC FOOD CONTAINERS, PLASTIC TRAYS, PLASTIC FUEL/OIL CONTAINERS, PLASTIC MAKEUP CONTAINERS, OTHER TYPES OF PLASTIC, OTHER METAL CONTAINERS, BATTERIES, AND GLASS ARE NOT ACCEPTABLE ITEMS FOR RECYCLE AT OUR LOCATION If you have questions, please contact City Hall at 257-5522 or Tri-County Recycling Center 994-3020.
