Positive Parenting Course from the Parent Practice
The Positive Parenting Course is a 10 week series for parents and carers who want to have a toolbox of parenting skills and strategies to manage the day-to-day challenges of being a parent.Module 1: Descriptive Praise : Develop your child’s motivation, cooperation and confidence.Module 2: Emotion Coaching : Help your children manage their emotions more effectively– improving connection, communication and behavior.Module 3 : Setting up for Success: Make home life more harmonious and reduce your parenting stress.Module 4 : Values, Rules, and Rewards: Formulate, communicate, and follow through on rules consistently in ways that pass on the values you want for your children.Module 5 : Positive Discipline : Use positive discipline to respond positively to unwanted behaviors.Module 6: Fostering Independence & Other Good Habits: Give your children the attributes you think will benefit them as adults – increasing self-reliancce, confidence and life skills.Module 7 : Being in Charge : Learn how to be more In Charge – Positively and Firmly.Module 8 : Siblings: Learn how to foster positive relationships between siblings, other children and friends, and ways of resolving conflict constructively.Module 9: Keeping Calm : How to be able to access positive parenting skills when faced with provocative behavior.Module 10 : What to do when your children push your buttons? How to deepen connection by reacting appropriately in the face of button-pushing behavior. ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR Ann MagalhaesAnn has been leading parenting courses and workshops since 2008.
She trained and worked with the Parent Practice in London until 2013 when she moved to Rye. She has since taught the Positive Parenting Course and workshops in NYC, and in Westchester and Fairfield Counties. She holds a BA in Japanese Language & Literature and Spanish Studies from the University of Toronto and an MBA from Canada’s Richard Ivey School of Business. She is currently serving on the Heard in Rye committee and is an Executive Board member with Five Steps to Five, where she also volunteers her time teaching parenting in Port Chester..
