Join in for all or just part of Thanksgiving weekend. Ouachita National Recreation Trail (Segments 10 & 11) EAST to WEST Backpacking Trip (Miles 191.8 to 160.4 = 31.4 miles) DISTANCE: 31 miles from Highway 9 Trailhead to Highway 7 Trailhead (anticipate the potential for a few additional miles due to the length of spur trails to and from shelters) MEETUP: THU - 12 PM @ Iron Spring Roadside Park - Thanksgiving Meal THU - 1 PM Setup shuttle and drive to Highway 9 Trailhead (2 mile hike to Nancy Mountain Shelter from Highway 9 Trailhead) THU - 5 PM @ Nancy Mountain Shelter on the Ouachita Trail Thursday overnight camping at the Nancy Mountain Shelter FRI - 10 AM @ Nancy Mountain Shelter on the Ouachita Trail (7 mile hike to Brown Creek Shelter) FRI - 5 PM @ Brown Creek Shelter on the Ouachita Trail Friday overnight camping at the Brown Creek Shelter SAT - 9 AM @ Brown Creek Shelter on the Ouachita Trail (15 mile hike to Oak Mountain Shelter) SAT - 5 PM @ Oak Mountain Shelter on the Ouachita Trail Saturday overnight camping at the Oak Mountain Shelter SUN - 9 AM @ Oak Mountain Shelter on the Ouachita Trail (7 mile hike to Trailhead on Highway 7) SUN - 3 PM @ Trailhead on Highway 7 The posted "meetup" times are listed in case anyone wants to join in on a day other than Thursday.

Should be at stated locations at the times listed if you decide to locate us in mid-route. MAP: Segments 10 & 11 of the ONRT - http://www.fs.usda.gov/Internet/FSE_DOCUMENTS/fsm9_039448.pdf SHUTTLE: Will leave at least one vehicle at the Highway 7 trailhead and drive to Highway 9 trailhead on Thursday afternoon to start backpacking trip Most of this area and that portion of the trail is new to me. Therefore, this trip will be exploratory in nature and unknowns will be expected. Hopefully everyone who attends will have sufficient coping skills to handle such circumstances. There are 3 shelter campsites along the trail which will be on a first come, first serve basis. I do not know what the availability of sites will be nor the number of participants until we get there.

Camping inside the shelter may be limited or unavailable, so plan accordingly. Hunting is allowed in the area and "blaze / hunter orange" clothing is recommended for safety reasons. Camping, backpacking, traveling in wilderness areas that are subject to hunter activity have inherent risks and with participation in such activities you are expected to take responsibility for your own safety (including sufficient abilities, gear and resources).

Comments
This particular trip will be longer and is posted as a public FB event (unlike my first two trips that were private FB events). If you decide to join the event on a day other than Thursday, please contact me if you need any assistance locating convenient access points along the length of the trail to join the trip in mid-route.
Oh, this is a 2018 event.

Got it.
