Olde Fashioned Christmas at Schmid Ranch

Celebrate the season with this FREE Telluride tradition. Find your Christmas tree, enjoy festive crafts, hot cocoa, warm chili, Christmas carols, sleigh rides and of course, visit with Santa. Sleigh rides will be from noon until 3:30 for $5 a ride. You can visit with Santa from 1:00 – 3:00. There is a suggested donation of $40 for Christmas Trees. Directions: Take 145 North out of Telluride towards Sawpit. Drive about 9 miles and then take a left on Silver Pick Road. Drive about 10 minutes up Silver Pick Road. There will be signs along Silver Pick Road. 4wd vehicles are recommended, as it can get muddy if the ground hasn’t frozen. The Schmid Family Ranch is a Centennial farm on Wilson Mesa, about ten miles West of Telluride, Colorado. The ranch has been in operation since the family homesteaded in 1882.

The family worked with the Nature Conservancy to preserve the entire ranch through a conservation easement now held by the San Miguel Conservation Foundation. Today the family’s wish is to share this unique property with the community while maintaining a way of life that honors the land.

Calling all Elves & Holiday Helpers. Volunteer with the Telluride Historical Museum for an Olde Fashioned Christmas at Schmid Ranch on Saturday, December 9th. The museum needs volunteers to help with this event and we have a wide variety of tasks available. This event would not be possible without the generous Christmas spirit of our volunteers. As a thank you to our volunteers we offer a Christmas tree free of charge.
Shifts will be for 2 hours and volunteers will need to meet at Schmid Ranch. The Ranch is located on Wilson Mesa and is approximately 30 minutes outside of Telluride and 45 minutes outside of Norwood. Please account for this when you are signing up for volunteer shifts. The entire event takes place outside so remember to dress warmly, to pack extra layers, to bring sunscreen, and to bring water. Please keep in mind, we will have volunteers selling chili but this is the only food option available. Contact theresa@telluridemuseum.org to sign up.
Wish I could make it, I’m going to be out of town. This is a great event hope it goes well.
