Meet the Experts: The Changing Landscape of the Retail Industry

MEET THE EXPERTS is a speaker-series focused on trending industry topics featuring panelists who are subject matter experts. This event is the second of several hosted by the Council for Retail and Sales (CRS). Each event will have a specific theme that addresses an important topic in the retail and sales professions. Join us Wednesday, September 25, 2019 from 8:00 - 9:45 am for "The Changing Landscape of the Retail Industry"as our panel of experts discuss the future of shopping, consumer trends, and the need for constant innovation.  Registration and networking will begin at 8:00; program will begin promptly at 8:30. The event will be held at Walmart's E-Commerce Fulfillment Center in Bethlehem.  Following the program, Walmart will offer tours of the facility.  Tours will begin at 10:30am and will last approxiamtely 1 hour.

Our panel of experts include: Ann-Louise Almeida: Regional Vice President, Walmart.  Ann-Louise joined Walmart in 1997 and currently serves as a Regional Vice President in the Northeast Division.  She has responsibility for 87 stores in Eastern Pennsylvania and South Jersey including Philadelphia and the Jersey shore. Ann-Louise began her 22-year career at Walmart in the Philadelphia area.  Before transitioning to store operations, she held several leadership positions in Health and Wellness from Pharmacy Manager to Business Unit leader.  In 2015 Ann-Louise’s passion for process and people led her to store operations.  As a developmental RGM, she was able to learn the business through the mentorship of her peers and working alongside a fantastic group of associates.
In 2016 she was selected to lead the associates in Region 22. Ann-Louise currently serves on the leadership council of Walmart’s Women of Health and Wellness.  She is also an active supporter of the American Cancer Society.   Ellen Deyoc: Regional eCommerce Director, Walmart.  Ellen joined Walmart in 2011 and currently serves as a Regional eCommerce Director in the Northeast Division. She has responsibility for eCommerce operations in 179 stores in Eastern Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, Connecticut and Rhode Island.  Ellen began her 8-year career at Walmart in Bentonville, AR. Before transitioning to Walmart operations, she held the assistant manager position at Sam’s Club in Grocery and Membership. In 2013, Ellen’s passion for customer service and people led to her the eCommerce field.
She was able to learn the business and pilot multiple new projects for Walmart eCommerce through the mentorship of her leadership team, peers and an amazing group of associates. In 2017 she was selected to lead eCommerce operations for multiple regions in the northeast.  Ellen has served on the Women in Leadership Board for Walmart Central Operations. She is also an active supporter of the American Cancer Society. Toby Gray: Vice President Regional Fulfillment Operations, Walmart.  Toby has been a proud Walmart associate for the past 26 years. He was hired as an hourly associate in Loveland, Colorado and has served in multiple leadership roles. Toby is currently the Vice President of US fulfillment Operations and enjoys working with his teams to take care of associates and exceed customer expectations.  Toby and his wife of 24 years have two children.
One is going into her senior year of high school and the other is a sophomore at Florida State University. Dr. Denise Ogden: Professor of Marketing, Penn State University; Vice-Chair, Council for Retail and Sales.  Denise Ogden is in her 18th year at Penn State University’s Lehigh Valley Campus. Upon arriving in Pennsylvania in 1989 she joined D&B where she gained experience in various positions. Prior to D&B, Denise worked in Public Relations for the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation (Colorado). Her consulting firm, The Doctors Ogden Group LLC, specializes in research, experiential marketing and entertainment marketing. Denise holds a Ph.D. from Temple University, an M.B.A. from De Sales University, and a B.S. and B.A. from Adams State University (CO). She is the co-author of texts in retailing, marketing and integrated marketing communication and has authored or co-authored numerous research papers.
In 2003 and 2013, Ogden was the recipient of the Lehigh Valley Campus Teaching Excellence Award. In addition, Ogden was awarded the prestigious George W. Atherton Award for Excellence in Teaching. In addition to teaching, she is active as Vice-Chair for the Council for Retail and Sales. Jeremy Schmoyer: Financial Manager – Division Collections, Sherwin-Williams.  Jeremy Schmoyer is a seasoned and proven business leader, trainer, lecturer and teacher with more than 20 years of business, management, and leadership experience.  Jeremy holds an MBA with a concentration in Human Resource Management from Moravian College, and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, with a major in Marketing and a minor in Public Relations from Kutztown University. Jeremy also serves as an Adjunct Professor at Penn State Lehigh Valley and DeSales University. He teaches courses in Strategic Business Planning, Strategic Compensation and Benefits, Business Communication Skills and Human Resource Management.  Moderated by Doug Nay, Associate Professor of Business, East Stroudsburg University.  Dr. Douglas Nay retired as a Senior Vice President and the Global Data Authority of Dun & Bradstreet Inc (now D&B Inc) after more than thirty years. His leadership assignments included Area, Regional, and District assignments in Operations, Marketing, and Global in smaller and larger businesses domestically and advising in 50 different countries globally. After retirement in 2001, he began teaching at Muhlenberg College in Allentown, Pennsylvania, finished his Doctorate in International Business and Management at Pace University, following an MBA in marketing at NYU and undergraduate degree from Rutgers. Doug is currently Associate Professor of Business at East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania and was previously Professor of Management and Technology, Department Chair of Business and Technology at Florida SouthWestern State College, Fort Myers , Florida.
