Lower Eagle Creek Trail Treadwork #1 (June 27)

This work party is intended for volunteers who have not worked on Eagle Creek Trail this year. If you have worked on this particular trail we applaud you and hope you will understand that some others want a chance. Crew Leaders: Roberta Cobb & Omar Sankari Project Overview: PCTA and Friends of the Gorge are teaming up to improve the very beginning of Eagle Creek Trail.  This trail remains closed to the public.  If you sign up with us, you are signing up to do basic tread work especially clearing the culverts and drains and a large slide at the beginning of the trail.  Hiking distance approximately 2 miles round trip. The people who sign up with Friends of the Gorge will be working on removal of invasive species such as Herb Robert (Stinky Bob) in the same stretch of trail.  We’ll all get to know one another, share stories, and get a broader understanding of the effort needed to bring Eagle Creek Trail back.

Additional safety notes: Sturdy boots with good traction and ankle support are required, no exceptions. Because this area was in the burn zone, we must keep alert for overhead hazards. Weather conditions may force us to cancel or redirect the crew. What You Need: Long pants, long sleeve shirt, sturdy boots that protect your ankles and provide good traction, a day pack that can hold sufficient water, lunch/snacks, weather appropriate extra clothing (rain gear, extra warm layers, warm hat, etc.), and any personal items you typically bring on a day hike. You may also be asked to carry a few small tools in your pack if you have extra room. We'll provide hard hats, gloves, and tools, but if you have your own you may bring them.
