La Paloma At The Wall - Directors

FREE AND OPEN TO THE PUBLIC Join Dr. Anna Deeny Morales of Georgetown University, Manuel Cuellar of George Washington University, Christine Arce of University of Miami in a discussion of the history, current events, and art of border culture as these themes relate to our upcoming production of La Paloma at the Wall.   The event takes place at the historic Mexican Cultural Institute, the former Mexican Embassy.  With beautifully muraled walls and rich history, the mansion is now home to important cross-cultural exchanges, art exhibits, and performances.  La Paloma At The Wall is a bold reimagining of “La Verbena de la Paloma“, the most famous and beloved Spanish zarzuela, set at Friendship Park, on the Tijuana side of the border between Mexico and the United States.  This vibrant and triumphant piece affirms with music and poetry the power of the human spirit to transcend boundaries, featuring Mexican folk dance, and with Tomás Bretón’s melodies brought to life by an ensemble inspired by traditional Mexican son jarocho music. Here, despite separation, cultures, lives, and spirits intersect, rise, and go on.

The piece will be directed by Nick Olcott, music directed by Ulises Eliseo, and choreographed by Alejandro Gongora featuring local Mexican Folk Dance organization, Corazon Folklorico DC.   It will be performed at GALA Hispanic Theatre on March 23rd, 24th, 30th, and 31st. Tickets can be purchased at .
