Kirtan with Alli of Seva

Join Alli of Seva Org (@SevaOrg on Facebook) for Kirtan and Satsang at Amityville Apothecary. What is Kirtan? Kirtan is a very simple & powerful way to meditate.  It’s effortless & joyful; the music does the work for you as you flow with the melody & rhythm. Singing is the heart of kirtan, and no one cares what you sound like.  At a kirtan concert all voices merge together to become One Voice. Because kirtan has roots in India, many of the songs are sung in Sanskrit.  Some I choose for the New World Kirtan podcast are also in Punjabi, the language of the Sikhs.  If you’ve ever chanted responses in Latin or Hebrew in your religious tradition, then you know how powerful singing in an ancient, holy language can be.  You can be completely immersed in the sound, with no words to distract the mind.  The magic of the chants can then carry you within.

Kirtan is non-denominational, the Universal language of Spirit, the song of the Soul. Note: space is limited so advance registration is strongly recommended. Kirtan will begin promptly at 3:15. Refreshments, tea and discussion following, ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ About Alli, in her own words: Yoga saved my life. I was dangerously overweight and looking for an out. I had never been athletic and hated the gym. I attended a yoga class while on vacation with my family and that was the beginning of my new life. I realized that the physical asana practice was a full body workout that I didn’t hate doing. As I practiced more I came to learn that I, in fact, loved this form of movement. In a year and a half I had lost 80 pounds and gained my Yoga Teaching Certification.
As my practice deepened I began to yearn for answers. What is this amazing feeling after I practice? Why does yoga change lives, inside and out? I began learning more about Bhakti yoga, the yoga of devotion. More and more questions were being answered in the light of Bhakti and I realized the enormous benefits of sound on the soul. Now my vision is to heal the world through asana, kirtan, and selfless service.
