Iconic Architecture: St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church & Haertling Film Screening

Experience the Architecture of a Sculptural Icon with a Presentation, Film Screening, and Discussion with the Architect’s Son, Filmmaker Joe Haertling. About the Event Marvel under the soaring curvature of Charles Haertling’s hyperbolic parabaloid-topped house of worship, Saint Stephen’s Lutheran Church in Northglenn. Denver Modernism Week and Northglenn Historic Preservation Foundation are collaborating to celebrate the architecture and history of this expressive mid-century icon, and to recognize its recent listing on the National Register of Historic Places. Built in 1964, Saint Stephen’s is representative of the remarkable combination of architectural creativity, engineering prowess, and construction techniques that came together during this era. Ron Sladek, of Tatanka Historical Associates, will be sharing photos and perspectives from his research into the history of the church.

Following the presentation, filmmaker Joe Haertling (the architect's son) will be screening his film, “Design Process of Charles A. Haertling,” featuring historic footage of the church’s construction. Experience this awe-inspiring Northglenn house of worship, and celebrate its place in history alongside the spirit of the congregation that commissioned such innovative design. Good to Know The duration of this event is approximately 2.5 hours.
