Helen, GA - Fall Foliage Trip

Meet at Dunham's Parking Lot in Scottsboro at 7am. EVERYONE must sign a liability waiver before we depart. Please park at the end of the parking lot, away from the store. NOTE: This will be a fun-filled two days including hiking, touring, shopping and exploring. Dress and pack comfortable clothing and shoes. Be prepared for a moderate amount of walking. Day One Stop One: Lunch around 11am at a local hot spot to be determined closer to trip date. We try to choose “Mom & Pop” locally owned and operating places that are highly recommended. You won’t be disappointed. Stop Two: Babyland General Hopsital in Cleveland, TN. Beautifully situated on 650 acres in the North Georgia Mountains, this Southern Style home filled with Cabbage Patch Kids will capture the imagination of your entire family.

Mother Cabbage is always on display beneath the branches of the Magic Crystal Tree. Pollinated by fanciful Bunnybees, the magical Cabbage Patch is tended by Licensed Patch Doctors and Nurses. Babyland General Hospital is the only place in the world where you can witness the birth of a hand-sculpted Cabbage Patch Kid…and we will. Stop Three: As we enter Helen, GA., we will stop in Nacoochee Village. This area is where you can enjoy a wine tasting at Habersham Winery, shopping in Nacoochee Antique Mall, formerly Historic Martin House est.1876, Nora Mill Granary & Old Country Store and Jumpin’ Goat Coffee Shop. Make sure to taste the Goat Nuts, they are delicious. The winery has a wine slushy that is amazing. Last Stop: Helendorf River Inn & Suites. We will check in to our hotel for the evening.
German style rooms with microwaves, mini fridge, ironing boards, wifi and a private balcony overlooking the water. After a quick drive-thru town, where we will point out a few good places to eat and visit, you will have the rest of the evening to eat supper, shop and explore the cobblestone streets of Helen on foot. Our hotel is as close as it gets to Main Street. You will be steps away from all kinds of unique shops, German restaurants and pubs, museums and fudge shops, Betty’s old country store and horse and carriage rides. Have fun. Day Two- Enjoy a continental breakfast from the hotel lobby (cereal, pastries, bagels, muffins, juice, coffee) and be ready to load the bus at 9am. Stop One: Anna Ruby Falls- located near Unicoi State Park. You can hike to the falls via a 1/2 mile paved trail that leads to two viewing decks.
For those who do not want to hike to the Falls, another interesting trail that begins at the visitors center is The Lion's Eye Trail. It runs along Smith Creek. The trail has hand rails and braille signs. This is a very nice trail with an easy walk along the creek.  Stop Two: Fields of the Wood in Murphy, NC. - a religious park of more than 200 acres that is best known for its 300-foot-wide, mountainside representation of the Ten Commandments. Here, we will experience a small representation of God’s love and presence as it unfolds through the use of beautiful marble and stone. From the top of Prayer Mountain to the valley baptismal pool; through the gigantic Ten Commandments spread across the mountainside; poured out through the All Nations Cross; God’s Word is presented and preserved for future generations.
People of all races and religious beliefs are welcome to visit. We will eat lunch on the property at the old school Burger Mountain Café. *** If time allows, we have one surprise stop planned. We should arrive back in Scottsboro around 6pm – just in time for supper.
