Gingerbread House Making

Please join us at 5 p.m. on Friday, December 22nd at Red Hook Public Library when we blend architecture, holiday cheer, and lots of frosting at our annual Gingerbread House making event. Did you know? The making of gingerbread dates back thousands of years to the ancient Greeks and Egyptians. At that time, it was often used for religious or ceremonial purposes with saints and other religious icons being depicted in the form of gingerbread. Beginning in the 17th Century, baking gingerbread men and women became a popular Christmas tradition, but it wasn’t until the publishing of the spooky Brother’s Grimm fairytale of Hansel and Gretel in Germany in 1812 that the making of gingerbread houses became more widely popular. Join us as we lather on the frosting, pile on the candy canes, and and decorate with gumdrops to our heart's content.

This event is free and open to all, no registration necessary.
