Georgia Food Paths: Partnering for Sustainable Food Systems

All the wasted food in the world could feed the world’s hungry four times over. Are you ready to take steps to reduce wasted food in your school, business, or community, but don’t know where to start? Then join us for Georgia Food Paths: Partnering for Sustainable Food Systems on August 20, 2019 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Atlanta for the first in a series of workshops that will focus on how to reduce wasted food in the public sector (including higher education), commercial establishments/restaurants, and K-12 schools. Hosted by the Georgia Environmental Protection Division in conjunction with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Region 4, City of Atlanta, Compost Now, Rowdy Elephants, U.S. Green Building Council, and Atlanta Public Schools, the workshop will provide practical solutions to some of the most common food diversion challenges, including: Finding tools and methods to aid in diverting wasted food from the landfill Navigating legal barriers surrounding food donation Making the case for solutions and engaging stakeholders Launching or expanding your program (e.g., source reduction, prepared food donation, composting) Measuring and reporting your success The workshop will feature experienced speakers and moderated breakout sessions where you will be able to network with others in your sector and discuss similar issues, concerns, and ideas. Speakers to include: Mary Walker, EPA Region 4; Jonathan Crane, Emory University; Liza Milagro, Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.

Solution Makers Panel Discussion will feature lunch with speakers from Atlanta Community Food Bank, GoodR, Compost Now, Rubicon, and SGI. The registration fee is $15.
