Free Pour Painting Demo

Pour, drizzle, tilt, swirl, tilt again - if you want to see how it's done, stop by the Winona Studio at the Mendocino Art Center, 6pm during Second Saturdays when several of the MAC's Artists in Residence open their studios to answer questions, discuss artistic process, and offer works for sale. Linda Ryan, one of the MAC's Artists-in-Residence through May of this year, will demonstrate #PourPainting basics. Several of her in-process pieces will be on view as well, giving you an even deeper glimpse into where #LiquitexPouringMedium can take you. "You don't need to be an artist to do the basics - composition and color can all be learned," says Ryan. "It's actually a really freeing method of expressing creativity that even helps people who have control issues to loosen up - I've heard this numerous times from students." She is organizing a short Basics of Luminous Pour Painting workshop in February, and asks interested parties to email her directly at lindaryanart@ to get on the interest list.

For the more serious, or seriously interested student, a full-on workshop delving into more depth, including several demonstrations each day, multiple types of layering, achieving pleasing composition in a free-form medium, glazes, what to avoid for a successful piece, and a chance to create multiple pieces within an intimate setting, see for class information and signups in April. "If you're interested, you should try it," says Ryan. "If you can't afford the classes - at least try my blog about the Basics. Honestly, I use the basics abstractions to loosen up and get excited again about color play and interesting pigment interactions myself. It's a splendid way to reach down to your creative depths, let the kid out and then reign yourself back in to actually make art as well." "But," she adds, "Come check out the demos.

They're pretty fun to watch." .
