Fort Croghan Day, 2nd Saturday in October

The museum uses varied groups and re-enactors throughout the day, so that visitors can get a sense of what life was like for early pioneers and settlers. Frequent visitors to the day's festivities include Buffalo Soldiers (African-American U.S. Army soldiers, typically cavalry during the 1800's), Confederate soldiers, “Yankee” soldiers of the Civil War era, fur trappers, Native Americans and others. Scattered among the cabins and the fort grounds one can visit other living history programs which demonstrate how early pioneers cooked, made baskets, churned butter, ground corn meal, created rope Visitors try their own hand at things such as make a rope, stitch a quilt, make a corn husk doll, or churn butter. Then, spread the freshly-churned butter on a biscuit, hot from a wood burning stove.

Come on out and see how it used to be.
