Food is Medicine for Diabetes: A Nutrition Symposium for Community and Health Professionals

Community and Health Professionals are welcome to attend both sessions. This symposium will examine the evidence supporting plant-based dietary patterns for general and Native American populations for diabetes prevention and treatment. Additionally, we will also explore key nutritional considerations when providing nutritional counseling on plant-based dietary patterns, explain the limits of risks associated with medications for type 2 diabetes, and identify behavioral and motivational principles to initiate and sustain lifestyle changes that promote health.
