Fire Works Studio Reconstruction Fund

As most of you have heard by now, a devastating fire leveled the studios of Dexter and Faith Benedict on November 1st. Both Dexter and Faith are long-time members, volunteers and exhibiting artists at the Arts Center. Many friends, neighbors, and community members have reached out and asked how they could help the Benedicts. With the Benedict's approval, the board of directors of the Arts Center of Yates County has established a Fire Works Studios Reconstruction Fund. The purpose of the fund is to help ensure that the Benedicts can emerge from this setback with as little negative financial impact as possible. Many thanks to all who have so generously given to the fund to date. As you’re aware, the purpose of the fund is to help the Benedicts as they recover from the November 1st fire that leveled their studios but, thankfully, did not touch their home.

That’s certainly something they were grateful for when they hosted family for Thanksgiving dinner last week. It was Dexter and Faith’s hope that the balance of funds donated to the Arts Center’s Fire Works Studios fund would be used for artistic scholarships. However they recently learned, despite years of having been assured that their studios were covered under their homeowners insurance, that the insurance company has now determined that the equipment in the studios should have been covered under a separate business owners plan and so is, in fact, not covered by their existing policy. This is a huge blow, as Dexter’s work certainly requires some large and specialized equipment and even smaller items like a pottery wheel, kiln and slab roller used in Faith’s work will not be replaced by insurance.

The Benedicts have spent more five decades giving to the Yates County community. Help us in showing our gratitude by helping them get back to work. Your tax deductible contributions can be made to Arts Center of Yates County 127 Main Street Penn Yan, NY 14527 – tagged for the Benedict or Fire Works Studios fund. Thanks for your support for these terrific artists. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Photo credit to John Christensen/The Chronicle-Express.
