FEBRUARY DATES . Week 1: Thursday, February 6, 5:45-8pm Week 2: Wednesday, February 12, 6-8pm Week 3: Thursday, February 20, 6-8pm Week 4: Thursday, February  27, 5:45-8pm FAQs What is a "family wellness education program?" In a fun, interactive classroom setting, this program will teach children and their families the health benefits of eating fruits/vegetables, foods low in salt/sugar, and daily physical activity (exercise).

Before and after the program, parents will complete a brief survey, and parents and children will complete a voluntary biometric (height, weight, waist measure) and fitness (timed half mile walk/run) assessment. These assessments will measure a family's progress towards healthier eating and physical activity behaviors. What will we do? Each week, children and their parents will: 1) prepare a budget-friendly healthy meal with supplied ingredients, 2) learn basic cooking techniques and food safety, 3) discuss health benefits of nutrition and physical activity, and 4) participate in a fun family fitness activity. What is the Cooking Competition? At the completion of the program, children will be divided into teams to prepare a meal judged on taste, presentation, teamwork, and creativity.
Celebrity Judges will select a winning dish and the winning team's name will be placed on the McLane Children's Golden Cup Trophy. Where do we meet? Each week, we will meet at the Senior Center (located right next the Killeen Family Recreation Center and the Lions Park) at 1700-B E Stan Schlueter Loop, Killeen. What if I have children under the age of 8-- can they still participate? If you have children under the age of 8 or over the age of 15, they can still participate as long as you have at least one child (age 8-15). Contact the Killeen Family Recreation Center to learn more about childcare services. Is Family, Food, & Fun. on Facebook? A Facebook Event for the program will be available on the McLane Children's Medical Center Facebook page- be sure to list yourself as attending and share.
What if we completed the program-- can we register again? Due to limited seating and high demand for this program, we ask alumni families to attend a "Family Reunion" events instead of repeating the program. Alumni families will receive more information upon completion of the 4-week program. What is McLane Children's Family, Food, & Fun. and when did it first start? Developed by Baylor Scott & White McLane Children's, reviewed by physicians, dieticians, and physical activity experts, the Family, Food, & Fun. program has partnered with Killeen Parks & Recreation to provide nutrition and physical activity education to hundreds of families in the Killeen community since November 2015. What if I have more questions or need to reschedule? If you have any questions or would like to reschedule, please call 254-935-5013 or email Eric.Childress@BSWHealth.org.
