Family Storytelling: Tales of Art at the Block

Museums are full of stories. Join us for read-aloud story zones and interactive activities in the galleries designed to help you look closer and think deeper about the art on view at the museum. Come discover the stories hidden beneath the surface of the art at The Block and invent your own. Geared for children ages 3-8 but all are welcome. Space is limited and registration is required.   What’s happening? If you do plan to attend, feel free to drop in anytime between 10am – 11am. We’ll be offering a few different activities ongoing throughout the hour: Join a read-aloud story time with books inspired by the art on view at the museum Write or draw about objects that your family treasures Explore our exhibition Caravans of Gold, Fragments in Time: Art, Culture, and Exchange across Medieval Saharan Africa You can take part in each activity or just pop in for one.  Helpful tips about your visit Getting hereFeel free to park in the Segal Visitors Center Garage lot (directions are here).

In the museum, please look with your eyes, and not with your hands The art that you see is very fragile, and touching it can damage the work, sometimes in invisible ways. Please be careful to not touch the walls or clear boxes either. Take your time, and don’t feel like you have to see it allThere’s no need to rush – and please don’t run in the galleries. The museum is open from 10am to 5pm so you’ll have plenty of time to look. We’re also FREE all the time, so you can plan to come back. Capture your visitFeel free to take pictures—without flash. You can also draw or write – in pencil only please. – but please don’t lean on the walls or cases to do so.  Take a breakFood and drink are not allowed in the galleries, but feel free to pack a snack or lunch and enjoy it at the Norris Student Center.
It is right next door to the museum, has lots of room to eat, and there’s a food court, too.
