Faith in Activism: An Interfaith Panel Discussion

This holiday season, warm up on a Sunday afternoon with the NHSC at the Peterborough UU Church as we present a very special panel discussion. From abolition of slavery to the liberation of oppressed peoples around the world, people of faith have stood at the front lines of radical social justice battles - some won and some lost - throughout modern history. But this is not a trend or tradition that belongs to the past. Our vibrant and diverse faith traditions still play an integral role in the eternal fight for a better, more just and equitable world. How does faith inform one's politics? For members of the clergy, how do spiritual beliefs and practices contribute to action in the political sphere? Is capitalism compatible with the world's religious teachings and tenets? These questions represent just a TASTE of the topics our discussion will explore.

The panel will be moderated by our own Zoe Wroten-Heinzmann, and we are proud to bring you the following members of the panel itself: Andy Hyatt - Andy is a Boston DSA member who came to the Left through Liberation Theology and Catholic Social Teaching Rev. Diana McLean - As minister at Peterborough UU Church and active in the local faith community, Diana has been active in local protests, hosted interfaith vigils to hold space around tragic events, and brings a passion for social justice to the heart of her ministry Imam Will Coley - Will is a libertarian activist and imam of the soon-to-open MALIC center, Keeneā€™s first mosque, with a focus on interfaith community building and providing services to the homeless population Dave Capozzi - With many years' experience working with the homeless and poor of Boston, Dave is an evangelical pastor in the process of starting a new, community-focused church in Brockton, Mass Rick Durance - Rick, also a DSA member, is the youth pastor at United Church of Christ, Keene, and is active in the fights for immigrant rights and food justice Stay tuned for updates - there may be a last-minute panelist or two and we are exploring options for childcare.

Hope to see you on the 10th.
