Drifting: A Prospect 4 group show opening reception party

It's that time PROSPECT 4 at TREO DRIFTING: to be carried slowly by a current of air or water. OPENING RECEPTION- Nov 3rd 7-10pm SHOW RUNS-Nov 1 st- Nov 30 th LIVE MUSIC, IRISH DANCING AND FREE BOOOOOZE Artists: Tricia Duffy Vitrano Eva Maier Susan Norris Davis Description: NOLA is a melting pot. We come to New Orleans “The Lotus in Spite of the Swamp” from someplace else. Some stay, some go. But NOLA never leaves us. This show highlights 3 artists who hail from Ireland, Switzerland and Peru. They met at NOLA at UNO and are reunited in this show. Tricia Duffy Vitrano: Ireland I salvage sticks and branches from the banks of the Mississippi, creeks of Colorado to the shores of California and transform them into wall and free-standing sculptures. Recycled materials, Japanese papers, gold and silver leaf and anything I may find on my studio floor help bring these pieces to life.

I find beauty in the scarred, broken and discarded and enhance their natural flaws. Each piece has its own theme and expresses it with beauty, harmony and a gentle fierceness. These sticks fight back. Eva Maier: Switzerland As we travel through life we collect our pieces that create the assemblage that is “I”. Through clay and fiber ‘creatures’ and oil paintings they become expressions of the constant transformations that create the self. Susan Norris Davis: Peru Audubon: A Vision +200 Years” The evolution of earth’s creatures and humanity’s cultures often intertwine. My work records how birds and people adapt and react to each other in south Louisiana, as we all drift in the currents of time. Today our wetlands are fragile and fragmented. The anhingas are still here, living along slow waterways however isolated they may be.
The birds I observed for my painting were in Audubon Park and lower St. Bernard. Audubon’s birds were done in New Orleans, with the Mississippi River bottomland hardwoods for a backdrop. Those bottomland hardwoods no longer exist.
