Downtown Parking Study Kick-off

The Casper Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) hopes to connect with Downtown and Old Yellowstone District (OYD) business owners, residents, and anyone else interested in the future of these neighborhoods at a kick-off meeting on Wednesday, December 13th from 5:30 to 6:30 at the Fox III Theater, 150 W 2nd St. MPO and City staff, along with representatives from consulting firm Kimley-Horn, will be hosting a public meeting to introduce what to expect from the study process, opportunities that will be explored in the next six months, and reviews some ideas that may come out of the study and planning process. Finally, the public will have an opportunity to provide comments and initial thoughts on how to address Casper’s parking challenges. The last downtown parking study that took place was over seventeen (17) years ago, before the OYD was established.

An updated parking study will focus on parking assets and innovative parking management solutions. Components of the parking study will include stakeholder and community engagement, data collection such as an inventory of existing assets and land, and analysis of current and future demand, identification of high-priority issues, and identification of short-term and long-term management and financing strategies and solutions. The City Council approved the initiation of a parking study to address a growing demand for parking in the OYD and Downtown Casper on June 27th, in an effort to be proactive and anticipate future parking demands as these neighborhoods continue to thrive. The Casper Area MPO will be coordinating the study with the assistance of the Casper Planning Division and the Casper Police Department.
Overall, these three entities, along with all Downtown and OYD stakeholders, will provide significant input into the development of future parking strategies.
