Having a clearly hostile or hurting couple in your office, counting on you to help them, can be a great deal of pressure. They want help and they want it now. It’s a great deal to ask of anyone. Does this ever leave you feeling overwhelmed? Many therapists did not enter the profession to do couples/marital counseling, but have found, at times it may be a necessity. Nevertheless, this has left some feeling thrown into the fray with far too little preparation.
With the goal of equipping you to feel better prepared, our "Developing your process, proficiency, and practice of couples/marital therapy" seminar will seek to cover the following:
Making the most of the intake session
Assessments that facilitate the process
Knowing your strengths and weaknesses
Options for specialization
Understanding and addressing your personal biases
When to refer
Pros and Cons of mixing couple and individual sessions
Circumstances that hinder the process
Addressing common, but difficult, issues couples face
