Caste, Art and the Diaspora: Arts Workshop

Calling all POC artists to join us for an afternoon of discussion and workshopping. We welcome all writers, painters, actors, filmmakers, playwrights, podcast creators, visual artists, comic book makers, comedians, musicians, poets, bloggers, DJs and VJs, animators, sculptors, graphic artists and more. Join us for an afternoon of discussion and art share with a lens on casteism in South Asian art. We focus on exploring art and identity through the South Asian Diaspora, but are very appreciative of all folks of color. The discussion will be led by Maari Zwick-Maitreyi, the Research Director at Equality Labs. Her bio is below: MAARI ZWICK-MAITREYI is a South Asian Dalit diasporic activist, scientist, and community technology organizer. She believes in the power of oppressed peoples to tell their story with autonomy.

As a scientist, her deeply held beliefs speak to the potential for science to transform and build community resistance against the ruling classes. She works to create participatory knowledge projects in Equality Labs that center community knowledge production to counter white and Savarna supremacist modes of learning and knowledge building. TOPIC: TBD Schedule: 4:00 - 5:30 pm: DISCUSSION 5:30 - 7:00: ART SHARE If you would like to workshop your art, please: 1) fill out this form below: 2) and send your work into before the workshop.

this event looks amazing, and i'd love to talk about caste politics with indian classical dance (in India and in the diaspora as I've lived and practiced dance in both) but I'm currently preparing for a new production in Staten Island at Snug it possible to Skype/Google Hangout into the event???
