Book Signing with Sheryl Parbhoo and Deborah Mantella

A transplant to the South, Deborah Mantella has lived and taught in various cities in the Northeast and the Midwest. Now a resident of Georgia, she lives outside Atlanta. Named to SIBA's The Pat Conroy Southern Book Prize Long List in the Prince of Tides/literary category, Mantella was also a 2016 nominee for the Lillian Smith Book Award sponsored by the Southern Regional Council, University of Georgia Libraries, DeKalb County Public Library/ Georgia Center for the Book and Piedmont College. As a Deep South Magazine's 2015 Fall/Winter Reading List featured selection MY SWEET VIDALIA earned a spot on the Lady Banks' Bookshelf and was designated an OKRA Pick by SIBA, the Southern Independent BookSellers Alliance. The book tells the story of Vidalia Lee Kandal Jackson’s pre-born daughter who, despite the direst of circumstances, refuses to leave her ill-equipped young mother's side.

Sheryl Parbhoo is an author, blogger, educator, and mother of five. A native Southerner, her interest in the intricacies of human culture led to a BA in Anthropology from the University of Memphis. Her longing for the spice of life culminated when she married her high school sweetheart, a South African Indian immigrant, and became a stay-at-home mom to their five children for over 20 years. THE UNEXPECTED DAUGHTER shows what happens when three people’s lives intersect in a tumultuous yet redeeming way that none of them could have ever predicted. Jenny is a young professional from the South with an upbringing she wants to forget. She meets Roshan, an Indian immigrant who has moved to the United States with his mother, Esha, to escape family ghosts. With strong cultural tradition, Esha has devoted her entire life to her only child, both for his own good and for her personal protection from a painful past.

These two women share a passion for writing and a friendship that continues to stand the test of time.
