Bol Park World Water Monitoring Challenge

World Water Monitoring Challenge - Bol Park, Palo Alto Come learn more about the watershed in which you live, how watersheds work, and what you can do to protect important creek habitat. Who: This is a great activity for young families, students looking for volunteer hours, and community members who are just plain curious about their local creek. All participants must register & approve the online waiver through this Eventbrite page. Youth under 18 must have their legal guardian approve the waiver on their behalf. Volunteers under the age of 13 must be accompanied by an adult. What: Volunteers are invited to come help us determine the quality of water in Matadero Creek with monitoring activities which are easy and fun to carry out. Participants will also have the opportunity to learn about watersheds and do a bit of biomonitoring by looking at which aquatic bugs live in this part of the creek - finding too many pollution tolerant bugs could mean a pollution problem.

Where: Please park on Laguna Ave. and meet at the entrance of the park closest to the creek under the redwood trees. Prepare for Working Outdoors: Water bottle Long pants, long sleeves recommended Sturdy close-toed shoes that can get dirty Hat/sunscreen or rain gear/boots Plan for potential exposure to sun No experience is necessary. Grassroots Ecology encourages people from all identities and backgrounds to participate in our programs. Many of our programs are outdoors and involve moving and working in a variety of landscapes. If you have accessibility concerns (i.e., allergies, limited mobility, learning differences), our projects are flexible and we are happy to work with you. Please reach out to the workday facilitator so we can best prepare for your participation.
