Blood Drive In Honor Of Mike Mittler & Brandon Riddle

OZARKS AREA RACERS FOUNDATION BLOOD DRIVE IN HONOR OF MIKE MITTLER AND BRANDON RIDDLE Community Blood Center of the Ozarks January 6, 2018 Ozarks Empire Fairgrounds E-Plex In the Darr Family Lobby Between the East and West Rooms Hours 2pm-5pm Mike Mittler will be inducted into the Ozark Area Racer’s Hall of Fame on Saturday, January, 6, 2018, at the Ozark Area Racer’s Reunion Ceremony. Mike is currently battling Multiple Myeloma and will undergo an autologous stem cell transplant in February. As a result of his own fight with cancer, Mike urges people to donate blood so that others battling cancer, heart disease, illness and injury will have the chance at survival. Mike Mittler is also a strong advocate for preventive health visits and early medical intervention.

The gift of blood donation will change lives. Brandon Riddle is 33 years old and a four-time transplant recipient of three livers and a kidney. He pits for Ricky Icenhower, Rod Icenhower and his dad, Mark Riddle, at I-44 Speedway. He was born with Biliary Atresia, which destroyed his liver, requiring his first liver transplant at the age of 13 months old. That first liver lasted 26 years before a re-transplant was needed. At 27 years of age, Brandon received his second liver, but that liver was lost within a week when the main hepatic artery clotted off. A third liver was found and transplanted one week later. Unfortunately, the transplants, complications through the years and anti-rejection meds kept his kidneys from recovering after the last liver transplant, making it necessary for a kidney transplant as well.

Brandon has received well over 500 units of blood in his lifetime. His story is one of restored health and happiness. He is happily married and he and his wife, Ashley, are foster parents to two amazing children. Brandon is very thankful for each and every donor who had a part in saving his life. Please consider donating blood on Saturday, January 6, 2018, 2pm-5pm, in the Darr Family Lobby, located between the east and west rooms of the Ozarks Empire Fairgrounds E-Plex. Donating blood saves lives.
