Bair Island Walking Tour

Tucked away right near Redwood City is Bair Island, a 3,000-acre mosaic of tidal channels, mudflats, and salt marsh vegetation. This precious island is one of the last in the South Bay region and is a hotspot for birds and other marine life. In 1997, Peninsula Open Space Trust (POST) purchased 1,623 acres of the island and thus began the work to return the landscape to a more natural ecological state. Currently, Bair Island is managed by the US Fish & Wildlife Service (USFWS) as part of the Don Edwards San Francisco Bay National Wildlife Refuge.  POST, along with several other partners such as the San Francisco Bay Bird Observatory (SFBBO), continues to nurture Bair Island to bring back the life-rich waters of the Bay. See it for yourself: enjoy a docent-led tour on Bay Day - October 5th.

This easy, interpretive walk takes place either at 10:00 AM or at 12:00 PM. You'll learn about the marine life on the island, and about the work that important organizations like SFBBO do to restore Bair Island. Sign up now.
