Amazing Authors: Food Writer Michele Morris

The Amazing Authors Series is back at Pine River Library, showcasing literary talent from the Southwest. This year the series will have tasty twist: a food theme. In the first event of the series, Denver cookbook author and food blogger Michele Morris will speak at the library on Tuesday, January 9 at 6 p.m. Michele is a professional recipe developer, food photographer, and trained sommelier, and leads food and wine tours in Italy. She has published two cookbooks: Tasting Colorado, winner of the Colorado Book Award, and Taste of Washington. She is also the author of two popular blogs, one devoted to food and wine and one covering her worldwide travels. Michele is passionate about helping others eat local and seasonal food, and is committed to teaching others to make healthy, real food that families will love.

She teaches healthy cooking and nutrition to families on limited budgets for Cooking Matters Colorado, she helps prepare nutritious meals to improve the quality of life for clients of Project Angel Heart who are coping with life-threatening illness, and she teaches cooking classes to school children across the front range as part of Slow Food Denver’s Seed to Table Alliance for school gardens. The program will touch on the how-tos of recipe development and food photography and will also feature a cooking demo and free samples of a recipe from one of Michele’s cookbooks: Bear Creek Smoked Trout Pate. The remaining events in the series are scheduled for March and May, with Katrina Blair, local Durango wild food advocate and founder of Turtle Lake Refuge coming on March 13 and the Denver food journalist and microbrew blogger Ed Sealover speaking on May 8.
