Mastering Your Life Force W/Breathing Remedies for What Ails You "Breath is central to Yoga, because it is essential for life, and Yoga is about Life" T. Krishnamacharya Regular breathing practice purifies the body, mind and senses, reducing the obstacles that inhibit clear perception, in order to prepare the mind to focus towards a chosen goal. Life force is called prana. The system of Hatha Yoga-which is postures and breathing, is based upon balancing and regulating the flow of prana in the body. Prana exists in all things and is abundant in air, sunlight, food and water. The key to understanding prana and energy is breath. One who has strong lungs and good breathing capacity usually has abundant energy. When the mind is clear and balanced, the breath is even and rhythmic.

When the mind is nervous and tense, the breath, mind and body are erratic, and thereby linking the breath with movement, calms and balances the nervous system, regulating the systems and functioning of the body, mind and emotion. Each week we will learn about and practice special breathing exercises that unfold cellular intelligence and make the individual happy, peaceful and blissful. Approximate Course Outline, subject to adjustments to suite the group Week 1: The nervous system, Langhana-Parasympathetic (YIN) and Brahmana-Sympathetic (YANG), regulation of breath for desired effects, 3 Part Breath-complete yogic breath, Ujjayi-Conch breath, Diaphragmatic-Belly Breathing, Sun Breath, Nadhi Shodhana-Alternate Nostril, Kabalabhati- Shining Skull breath, Metta-Loving Kindness Meditation Week 2: The 4 Winds Directed by Bhanda, Clavicular-Upper chest breathing, Kabalabhati with alternate nostril combined, Kapalabhati-Shining skull breath, Brahmari-Bumble Bee breath, Utgeet-Ujayi exhaling with one nostril, So Hum Meditation Week 3: Attuning to Prana, Chandra Bhedana, Surya Bhedana, Alternate Nostril with extended exhalation-Anoloma Viloma, shitali-cooling breath, bhastrika-bellows breath, Self-Inquiry Meditation Recommended reading: Yoga of Action by Chaya~Sharon Heller, Yoga and Ayurveda and Ayurveda and the Mind by Dr.
