Artists Demonstrating during “Artists in Action” The sidewalks of historic downtown Weaverville from the Band Stand to the Highland Art Center will come alive with artists and activities during the annual ARTISTS in ACTION FESTIVAL which will be held on September 16, 2017 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. We will have Live Music, Kids activities, an art raffle, and more than 40 fascinating artists who will demonstrate their skill and discuss their craft. Among them will be award-winning artists including ceramic sculptors John Garrett and Susan Alexander, Redding’s Julie Bullock of Doodlebug Designs demonstrating how to paint glass with alcohol ink, watercolorist Karen Hammer, pastel painter Debee Holland-Olson, Jean Lam and Jason Richards demonstrating silver-smithing, wood carvers from the Hendersons, VaLynn Crafford creating animals through the art of needle felting, Earthdance jewelry, hand crafted Native American art and many more.
Linda Corr will be teaching a mosaic workshop. The Highland Art Center garden will host many activities for adults and children including the option to tie dye a t-shirt while enjoying the performance of storyteller Wind Walker. Moonshine will amp up the tempo, performing during the day on Angela’s Bead Art deck. Burning Bush will play at the Highland Art Center. Directly following, at 4:30, we will delight in the literary artistry of Alaska’s Fiddling Poet Ken Waldman at the Happy Salmon Gallery on Miner Street. Ken will provide a free 90 minute session with four writing prompts to help you begin four new stories or poems. Ken will perform an old-time Appalachian-style fiddling program with poetry and Alaska-set storytelling for a performance uniquely his.
He has been compared to Garrison Keillor, and people have said that attending one of his shows is like going on a cruise to Alaska. And of course, many merchants and the history as told through the Chinese Joss House Temple and the J.J. Jackson Museum will provide reasons to explore Weaverville. Look for the signs that will direct you to parking areas. Just pop over the hill on Hwy 299 and you will drop into our 1850’s historic setting, landing in the midst of Artists in Action. Come join us for Family Fun.
